The bedrock of my practice as a painter has always been a love of drawing, particularly of the human form. I try to be submerged in the process of transforming observation into a reflection of my experience of the observed. It is a search for what I feel has truth in the act of making an image.
At the moment, my work is in transition, going who knows where. Sometimes my work pushes in the direction of abstraction, but currently I am interested in narrative, and symbols, and how this connects to my inner world. As a result my paintings are more figurative than before. The struggle to remain comprehensible, in touch with the visual 'out there¹, while expressing my feeling and thinking, is at the heart of my work, whether it be drawing, painting, printing or writing.
